Gene Simmons caused a fake controversy in commenting about the death of Prince, resulting in free promotion for the KISS “Freedom to Rock” tour.
Simmons, famous for being awkward on NPR’s Fresh Air because he didn’t know how to talk to a smart lady, was interviewed for Newsweek in an article posted May 10th:
“Bowie was the most tragic of all because it was real sickness…All the other ones were a choice.”
In regard to Prince, Simmons says
“His drugs killed him. What do you think, he died from a cold?”
Simmons then pulled off a beautiful one hundred eighty degree fake apology, but not before Paul Stanley displayed fake outrage on Twitter.
“Embarrassed by cold clueless statements re Prince’s death. Without all the facts better to say nothing. My apologies t.co/Arb5XQ4o7l
— Paul Stanley (@PaulStanleyLive) 10 May 2016”
What’s this? Is there tension between the Paul and Gene camps? The world waits with bated breath.
Shortly after Paul’s comments… Gene’s wife Shannon Simmons shoots back!
“We ALL have our failings but true friends don’t point at them & throw you under the bus! Especially partners of 40 years!
— Mrs ShannonTSimmons (@shannonleetweed) 11 May 2016”
Stanley counters with a response just as confusing as his stage banter.
“Partners of 40 years says it all. Don’t confuse walking under the bus with being thrown under. My apology was right. t.co/FF9dG6Tfo1

You’d think at this at this point we’d have enough of a fake internet controversy to promote an upcoming tour.
Then Nikki Sixx keeps it moving along with comments on his radio show, trashing Gene Simmons :
“the recent heartless and uneducated remarks about Prince’s death shows why he’s not my hero anymore or anybody’s.”
Suddenly…in a dramatic twist to this pathetic promotional saga… Paul comes to Gene’s defense, shoring up support with the Simmons camp,,,
In an epic facebook rant, stanly writes
“Jesus Christ Nikki Sixx! Would you please shut up, find another way to be in the news and get off your self inflated pedestal.
Regardless of some things Gene Simmons has said that I may take issue with, his influence on musicians (you included) is undeniable and will continue.
More importantly, his work, generosity and monetary contributions to numerous causes and charities for those less fortunate makes your ongoing rant, in the scheme of things, the unimportant but annoying squeak it truly is.
No word on whether Official KISS self-inflated pedestals will be available at merchandise stands on their Freedom to Rock tour.
